History of Basketball
James Naismith a Canadian inventor created the sport
of basketball in 1891; he also created the first rule book for the sport. James
first created this sport while working at YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts.
HE got a peach basket and a soccer ball and wham! He created basketball. His
creation for the game of basketball was not an accident. While he was working
at YMCA the director asked him to create an indoor game that would give an “athletic
distraction” so he grabbed a soccer ball and a peach basket and began playing
basketball. The circumstances at the beginning of the game were they played
nine versus nine and handled a soccer ball and not a basketball which were shot
into peach baskets. In the beginning of basketball there were only 13 rules.
Basketball today is completely different from how it was played before because
there are more rules and instead of nine versus nine, today it is five versus
five etc.
