Columbus Day

Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer that discovered what he “New World” of the Americas, he discovered the “New World” on an expedition asked by King Ferdinand of Spain in 1492.

Christopher Columbus was born October 31, 1431 in the Republic Genoa, Italy. Columbus’s first expedition in the Atlantic Ocean nearly ended his life in 1476. After that Columbus went on lots of expeditions. Columbus left Spain in the Santa Maria accompanied by the Pinta and the Niña. Columbus and the other ships were set to sail west where they reached Asia where gold, pearls, and spices would await him. Columbus’s voyage took long that he set sail back to Europe where the winds pushed him towards North America where he accidently discovered the “New World” of the Americas in October 12, 1492.

Reflection: I think that it is a good thing that we celebrate Columbus Day because we get celebrate the day that Christopher Columbus discovered the “New World”.
